About Esperanza Solis:
As a first-generation college student, I know first hand how stressful college admissions can be. I love helping people and I went to college to become a nurse but soon I found a passion for assisting people with the college search and funding their future. I decided to become a counselor so I could provide the best service and mentor students during this critical time. As a counselor, I pride myself on being competent and motivated. I am passionate about high school and college/career counseling and I display a strong interest in student success. Since 2001, I have worked in education and as a high school counselor since 2007.
I work with first generation students, valedictorians, students who are top in their graduating class and student athletes. I guide students on every aspect of high school from course selection, to college search, entrance exams, financial aid packages, scholarships and more. Over the past ten years, I have helped many first-generation students get accepted to colleges such as Stanford, USC and UCLA. In addition, my students have won prestigious honors such as, the Presidential Scholarship at CSU Long Beach, and Division I Athletic scholarships to UC Davis, Fresno State and San Diego State.
As as a college and career counselor in Southern California, I have had the opportunity to visit almost every California State University and University of California, many independent California Colleges and I am now visiting out-of-state colleges as well. Currently, I work as a high school counselor which allows me to stay on top of current admissions trends and put my knowledge into practice. Every year I help organize a college fair which allows me to network with admissions counselors from all over the U.S. and recently I have also worked with Universities outside of the U. S. such as, The University of Navarra, Spain! I form strong relationships with families, I am friendly and easy to talk to. I love to take on challenges because they allow me the opportunity to grow.

Communication is key and I am dedicated to helping students make one of life’s most important decisions.
Being the oldest child in the family and having parents that did not attend college made me feel like I was on my own. I did not know much about the college process but Ms. Solis was very involved and helped me every step of the way. She went out of her way to guide me and she explains everything well. Speaking to her made me feel excited about college and my future. – Stephanie Perez
